Taos

For our summer vacation this year we (I) wanted a place we could drive in a day. While I like the beach, my preference is always going to be somewhere cooler and with mountains, and after giving several options to the family, that is what most in our family preferred too. We have been to Santa Fe a few times, and thought Taos might be a good option, with the added benefit of more mountains. I checked through our housing options and lsettled it when I found a house with the perfect set up for us--two bedrooms, including one with two beds in it, and outside of town a bit to have some space outside but not TOO far.

Our first day--checking out the town:

The next day: hiking at Taos Ski Valley:

a field of dandelions

Our last day in Taos was the 4th of July. We headed west to the Rio Grande bridge, and made ourselves all a little woozy.

a LONG way down

We then headed back into town. Because of the holiday, our lunch pick was closed, but all the other places we hope to visit (or revisit) were open. And the flowers were in full bloom. So many hollyhocks.

The next day we loaded up and drove down the mountain all the way home. We had great gas mileage! It was a short visit but seemed just the right amount of time for this first visit.
