The last quilts of 2024

This month, well in two cases this week, I finished three quilts. I am realizing now that I also finished a couple of bag projects but took pictures of neither of them. Oh well. On to the quilts.

One finish was a scrap quilt using quite a bit of the green scraps in that scrap jar. I still have quite a few of the more olive tones but was able to use enough to have room in the jar for more scraps now. My initial plan was to use the green with a white solid for a plus. As I finished several of those plus blocks, I was struggling with how I wanted to lay it out on the quilt. I was also a little unhappy about creating more scraps (or trash) to cut down the pieces for the blocks. Eventually I decided to make two blocks, the plus blocks and an improv block.

I found a piece of fabric at my house for the backing, but only had one yard. I thought I remembered seeing it on a recent trip to my local quilt shop Sewciety Quilt Company. I went there and there it was, in the clearance section. This is Wallpaper from Kathy Doughty's Earth Made Paradise line.

The next finish was a quilt using the Just 12 Fat Quarters pattern by TaraLee Quiltery. It went together quickly with fabric I bought in Taos on vacation, as well as some solids I had on hand.

And as you can tell, I pieced together something with what I had on hand, including this skull fabric I have had for a while.

The last quilt of this year was a Christmas quilt. I had hoped to piece together enough blocks to finish off most of these fabrics, but I still ended up with about half of them left. More for next year on some other project I guess!

This quilt got a flannel backing, all of which I had on hand, so I was able to use up even more random bits of leftover Christmas fabric.

All of these photos were taken today at Firehouse Art Center here in my city, which has added so many amazing murals this year.
