Cake and ice cream

JUDY’S CHOCOLATE SHEET CAKE

1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. sugar
2 c. flour
1/2 c. shortening
1 stick butter
1 c. water
4 T. cocoa
1/2 c. buttermilk
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp soda
1 tsp. vanilla

Sift together sugar, salt, and flour. In saucepan, bring to a boil the shortening, butter, water, and cocoa. Pour over flour mixture while still hot. Add the buttermilk, beaten eggs, soda, and vanilla. Bake in a large cookie sheet pan with sides or a 13 x 9 cake pan. Bake at 400°F for about 20 minutes. While baking, make icing.

ICING:
1 stick butter
4 T. cocoa
1 tsp. vanilla
6 T. milk
4 c. sifted powdered sugar
1 c. chopped nuts

Bring to a boil the butter, cocoa, and milk. Add sugar, vanilla, and nuts. Spread over cake while still hot.
