Family vacation - Pagosa Springs style

Last week we were able to head out of town for a bit to get a break from the heat, work, and just general busyness that we drift into. Because of the location of our son's youth camp this year, we settled on Pagosa Springs, in south central Colorado. And we loved our stay. The drive north from Santa Fe was lovely.

It took us about 4 hours to get from the camp to Pagosa Springs, which wasn't too bad (the drive home was a LOT longer).

Exploring the town. Later in the week Grace and I floated in those tubes down the river on the 45 minute float route. It was great fun and I'm glad she really pushed to do it. I did end up with some sunburned legs because I didn't remember to put any sunscreen on them.

And at the Rocky Mountain Wildlife Park (not free):

Always finds the rabbits!

We also found some hiking areas near the house we rented for the week:

And we girls rode horses.

Grace wanted to bring this one home.

More hiking, in a bunch sunnier Coyote Hill loop. We got to race back the last half to beat the coming storm (which at least brought clouds and a breeze, and was downhill).

On Tuesday we drove to Treasure Falls and then on past the Wolf Creek Pass.

I really seemed to want to go on walks and hikes all the time. The area we stayed in was outside of town and still a bit less developed (but getting more so). We walked (or sometimes ran) every day, and saw deer, rabbits, and one day even a fox.

The afternoon storms cooled the temperatures each day, and gave us a natural rest time each day. Grateful for the cooler temperatures, the piney air to breathe, and time away with the family for the week-- a great re-set for us all.
