Apparently I was so busy all summer that I did not remember to make one blog post. It did seem really short for some reason. Despite all of the travel and church camps and whatever else I was doing, I was able to keep on top of my goal to finish one quilt a month. Thankfully I did post photos on Instagram so I can keep track of what I finished when! I still love to have all of them compiled on this blog though. It makes it so easy to scroll back through each year.
May:
This one started with the backing, a print called Honorable Mention from Love Always AM. I pulled fabrics that coordinated colorwise and then they hung out together in a bin for a while so I could decide what to do for the quilt. I finally decided on the pattern Cleo by Kitchen Table Quilting. I use her patterns quite a bit. This one is for sale in my etsy shop.
June:
This one I finished in the middle of June. And gave it as a gift to a co-worker who was leaving and moving to Austria for the summer. This was the Madeline quilt pattern by Penelope Handmade, a pattern I have used before. She loves pink so that was the theme, with quite a mix of fabric from stash and scrap bins. I think the backing came from either a large tub of fabric in a storage closet at my church, or maybe from a quilter in town trying to downsize her fabric collection.
July:
This one was given to a family friend who had her 3rd baby girl in late July while we were on vacation. It started with the solids, most of which were stacked together on the shelf and seemed like they belonged together. I added some of the coordinating Bonny (by Denyse Schmidt) prints to make a quilt of it and started cutting everything into strips, sewing them together and weeing what would work. Very improv. I think the backing was some of the fabric I bought at Joann before they closed.
August:
This one was for a boy baby born about the same time as the girl. I started working on this one after vacation and took it to the church once it was finished. The same day that the mom stopped by to give a going away/thank you card to some of the teachers. They were moving three days later! I missed them that morning but texted and was able to drop it off in person. Glad I finished when I did . This was a mix a few of those shirt scraps (still) and fabrics that coordinated with the blue and brown thermos print that I have had for a long time. It also looks like I was able to work in some of the other colors of the Bonny fabrics. The backing was from--well I'm not sure. I was in a stack of fabric. The only thing I would have done differently with this one was either do the quilting in straight lines or use a gray thread--those white squiggles are too prominent on the darker colors.
Last night I finished up one more quilt, just on time to fit in the August quilts and on this post. This one commissioned by a friend, a retired teacher with quite the collection of school shirts.
That's all for the summer. Now it's time to look at what I have squirreled away in bins and what would be fun to make next!
